What is Agniveer Scheme in India for Army?

The Agniveer Scheme is an innovative manpower plan that aims to bring in young men and women who want to selflessly serve the country for four years. They are imparted military skills, discipline, physical fitness and are trained in the spirit of patriotism, courage & leadership qualities. After this, they are infused back into society as responsible citizens and contribute to the nation-building process.

After the four year engagement period, 25% of 'Agniveers' will be offered to be enrolled in regular cadre based on their performance and willingness. The rest will be released without pension eligibility and a lump sum severance package of Rs 11.7 lakh along with bank loans and skill certificates to help them find new careers.

In order to ensure that the 'Agniveers' get proper training, the Army will partner with renowned technology institutes in the country. These institutes will help to assess the 'Agniveers' and give them the appropriate training to enable them to make the right career choices.
